Physical Appearance
Height: 5 feet 7 inches

Hair: Dark brown/black, long enough that she can keep it tied in a short ponytail and out of her way. Her hair is thick and bouncy, which makes it disgustingly hard to maintain.
Eyes: Hazel, clear, and large. Changes from dark green-blue to light brown depending on the light. Perpetually at half-mast, making her look like she’s about to fall asleep all the time.
Skin: Fairly smooth. Naturally very pale.
Facial Features: A thin oval face with a strong jawline that comes down to a pointed chin. A small, long nose and thin lips that chap easily. Androgynous. Could be described as a delicate boy or a masculine woman
Other Physical Traits: Built like a boy, with narrow hips and strong shoulders. Long and lanky. Deceptively slender. Her movements outside of missions are slow and measured, like she’s conserving her energy for the field or like she’s really, really lazy. Has abnormally long, spindly fingers.
Handedness: Decidedly left. Ambidextrous through training, though.
Voice: A low alto, pleasant and warm. Gets squeaky and cracks when she’s excited.
Identifying Marks: The ANBU tattoo on her right bicep, but she keeps that covered up as much as possible. Various other assorted scars from training with sharp objects. A long surgical scar stretching from her right to left hipbone from forced experimentation on her reproductive system and puncture scars in the crooks of her elbows and wrists from her time as a prisoner in Hidden Cloud.
Usual Clothing: On duty she wears the standard ANBU uniform and thick boots. Off duty she avoids wearing anything that identifies her as shinobi, preferring to stick to civilian garb. Favors structured jackets, loose cargo pants, combat boots, and dark gloves. Keeps her arms from her elbows to her wrists covered at all times, whether with bandages, gloves, or long sleeves.
ANBU Mask: Rat, with strong bold black lines around the cheekbones. That are not like whiskers. Shut up. Also has a red spiral engraved on the forehead.

Living Situation: 3rd floor Apartment 315. Usually ends up sleeping on the roof, though, because she gets claustrophobic.

Ninja Skills
Fighting Style: As a kenjutsu-specialist, Katsuko could basically pick up anything that fell into the 'sword' category and kill large numbers of people to death with it. She's as skilled wielding one blade as she is with two, but she prefers fighting with a sword in each hand. Her mother, a Wind Country kenshi, trained her in the double-handed Hyoho-Niten style of sword-fighting. As a result of intense chakra screwage courtesy of your friendly neighborhood Cloud-nin, Katsuko’s chakra system is perpetually filled to the point of overflowing. She can pull off several high-powered jutsu in a row, but at a heavy price. Her chakra flow is so strong that she can barely control it--which means that if she’s too exhausted and tries to pull A-rank jutsu, or loses focus for even a second, there’s a high possibility her chakra will recoil on her and burn her alive from the inside out. She’s worked extensively enough with some experts (i.e. Hyuuga) to regain control over her elemental jutsu, enough control that she uses those techniques regularly. Before her capture by Hidden Cloud, her fighting style consisted mostly of her family kenjutsu combined with ninjutsu from her twin elements, wind and fire. Relies on her speed and agility to make quick, crippling blows. Likes to plant the odd explosive tag here and there for a little bit of fun.
Preferred Weapons: Fights with a combination of katana and kodachi; normally, practicioners of the Hyoho-Niten Ryu use a wakizashi instead of the longer kodachi, but Katsuko prefers the extra reach it gives her. Uses standard kunai and shuriken for long-range attacks. Fire and wind offensive ninjutsu.
Special Jutsu: Combines wind and fire jutsu with her family kenjutsu, can make a larger-than-normal amount of clones. It’s harder for her to do simple jutsu than to do chakra-eating, A-rank ones. Basically, pulling off an A-rank jutsu three or four times she could do without breaking a sweat-- but if she tries to pull off simple jutsu three or four times, it takes her as much effort and willpower as it takes normal shinobi to do an A-rank jutsu.

Service Record: Graduated from the Academy at age 10. Passed the Chuunin exams at age 13. When she was 15 she was captured by Hidden Cloud and tortured and experimented on for a period of six months. She was rescued by a team of ANBU Hunters. After intense psychological review, deemed fit to return to the field around a month after her 16th birthday. Passed the jounin exams at age 19 and entered ANBU shortly afterward.

Personality
General Personality Traits: Cheerful, intelligent, quick-witted, and lazy. Very hard to rile, seeing as the effort of getting angry, calming down, and then dealing with the damage she’s dealt isn’t really worth it. Plans every move she makes to get the maximum effect for the minimum amount of effort. Only really seems to come alive during conflict, and then she throws everything she’s got into the fray.
Quirks: Doesn’t like anyone touching the insides of her forearms or the crooks of her elbows; keeps her arms from her elbows to her wrists completely covered at all times. Has an utterly shameless penchant for cross-dressing.
During her imprisonment in Hidden Cloud, she developed a way to emotionally distance herself from pain that probably saved her from going insane: she responds mechanically to whatever is being said and refuses to make eye contact. It’s like she retreats to a little place inside her head. Unfortunately, she’s gotten so used to hiding from pain that she’ll use this defense mechanism at the first sign of emotional conflict, often exacerbating the situation.
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual. No preference one way or the other.
Gifts/Talents: A good liar. A calming presence. Quick-witted and calculating.
Flaws: Her general apathy towards anything that doesn’t have to do with fighting. Her laziness, cynicism, and her tendency to avoid emotional conflicts at all costs.
Religion and Philosophy: Her mother followed some sort of Zen Buddhism thing, but Katsuko never warmed up to it. So she’s agnostic, kind of. The only gods she absolutely believes in are the Shit-Mission Gods and the Cooking Gods.
Likes and Loves: Pie. Large, open spaces with plenty of sun and warmth and trees. Warm home-cooked meals. Bright colors. People with expressive faces. Her teammates. Her little brother. Morimoto Shingo’s good cooking, not the usual crap.
Dislikes and Hates: Drugs that screw with her reflexes (i.e. morphine, other painkillers, sleeping pills). Hates white lab coats, needles, the smell of antiseptic, small closed spaces, and anything even remotely resembling a human experiment. Really, really hates the T&I people and interrogation rooms.

Fears: Losing control of her chakra and burning up from the inside out, being tied down and experimented upon while still awake, dying while others look on impassively, her family hating her, her two teammates dying.

Dreams and Ambitions: To lead an ANBU squad and to live long enough to retire and mentor a genin team.

Relationships
Family: Her mother, her father, and her little brother Makoto. All still alive. Estranged from her family since she joined ANBU. Still keeps in contact with Makoto, although her parents don't know about that.
Friends: Her jounin sensei, Miyamoto Hideki (Deceased). Her two chuunin teammates, Sumiyoshi Nori and Arata Beni. Arata's a courier-nin while Nori is going to test for jounin soon. Still is very close to her two teammates. There is some friction between her teammates and her because of her decision to join ANBU.
Lovers: None
Hero: Sandaime Hokage, her former jounin sensei, Yondaime Hokage
Enemies: Some very unfortunate jounin and medic-nin in Hidden Cloud, T&I people in general and Shida Akumaru in particular, her grandmother and her grandfather to a certain extent. Her grandparents had an opportunity to rescue her from the facility about three months into her imprisonment, but doing so would have required them to acknowledge that Katsuko’s family even existed. They flatly refused, and Katsuko had to endure another three months of torture. She has some issues with that.
Personal History: Katsuko’s father likes to say that Katsuko’s family was the offshoot of an old samurai clan, but it really was more like Katsuko’s grandpa hated his arranged marriage and got his female retainer pregnant while he was off on holiday. The wife looked the other way, seeing as she was having an affair with her female retainer, and arranged for Grandaddy’s little mistake--Katsuko’s father--to be sent somewhere far, far away. Somehow the “little mistake” ended up being adopted by ninja in Konoha.

Katsuko’s dad eventually rose to jounin level and earned himself an ambassador’s position in Hidden Sand. He met a traveling female kenshi and fell in love with first the woman’s kenjutsu, and then the kenshi herself. The pair settled down in Konoha. When Katsuko was born, her mother and father agreed that Katsuko could be raised as a shinobi if she was also taught her mother’s fighting style. There was no debate over whether Katsuko would lead a civilian life and stay behind the frontlines to continue the family line; that was what second and third children were for.

Katsuko entered the Academy at the same time as her year-mates, studied hard, and didn’t make any waves. She trained with her mother outside of classes and quickly discovered that she had a talent for kenjutsu. She graduated when she was ten years old and was put on a genin team under Miyamoto Hideki, along with her teammates Arata and Nori. She developed a competitive, sibling-like relationship with the two boys and constantly pushed herself to keep up with them. The three passed the Chuunin Exams when Katsuko was thirteen; a year later, the Kyuubi attacked. Team Miyamoto was off in faraway Whirlpool Country, and didn’t return until it was too late to help. They were immediately pressed into service patrolling the border with Hidden Cloud, a job that was nearly impossible for a single jounin and three chuunin. Katsuko’s sensei voiced his alarm loudly and repeatedly, but there simply weren’t enough men to provide backup. Katsuko’s team spent a tense year patrolling the border, acting as sentries and deterrents to small bands of Cloud shinobi. Her fifteenth birthday was spent crouched in a dank cave hiding from a lightning storm.

Two months before their border patrol was up, a party of Cloud-nin ambushed Katsuko’s team, capturing Katsuko and fatally wounding her sensei; her teammates were badly injured but managed to escape. The Cloud-nin brought Katsuko to an underground testing facility and experimented (tortured) her on and off again for a period of six months. She managed to survive partly because a lowly Leaf chuunin with no bloodlines wasn’t high on the scientists’ experimentation list; she was part of a large group of victims that had their chakra systems tinkered with and got through mostly intact.

Katsuko was rescued by a group of ANBU who destroyed the testing facility and killed most of the Cloud-nin running it. She was brought back to Konoha and spent months recovering in mind and body. Four and a half weeks after her sixteenth birthday she returned to field service and threw herself into higher and higher ranking missions, much to the horror of her family and remaining teammates. She passed the jounin exams when she was nineteen and jined ANBU shortly afterwards.
